Live bearers are some of the easiest fish to keep. They tend to reproduce readily, and watching their young grow is an exciting part of the hobby. Sexing live bearers is also pretty easy to do. In general, the females will be larger, more rounded and less colorful than the males. The males also have a protrusion (gonopodium) with which they use to mate with the females (see graphic at left).

Guppys
Blackbar Endler Guppies are less common at pet stores. The males have a riot of neon coloration and are very active.

Least Killifish
One of the smallest native live bearers in the world, the least killifish is a charming species that is an excellent choice for nano tanks. This species also does well with the shrimp, leaving the small shrimp napuli babies alone.
